Looking for Blog Writers – $50

We are looking for your stories.

We want to publish a series of blog posts in February and March about the More Than Friends Marriage Preparation video series.

We are offering Leaders or Couples $50 for a blog post for the website.

Here are the guidelines.

We are looking for short posts of 100-250 words. In your blog post you might:

  1. Tell a story about what you expected before engaging the videos and how that turned out.
  2. Share a particular segment from the series that was particularly helpful or made a difference.
  3. Tell us about any creative ways you as a Leader are using the resource.
  4. Write about why offering Marriage Preparation series to couples is important to you.
  5. Choose a story to share with other couples or leaders you think will be helpful, fun or supportive.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind:

  • Your blog posts may be edited. We need short posts of no more than 250 words.
  • Your posts will be published on the More Than Friends website and the link shared on social media.
  • You are welcome to send a picture that accompanies your blog post or one will be chosen to accompany your article.
  • Please indicate your topic and you will receive confirmation and be given a date for submission.
  • Your blog can be posted anonymously if you choose (though you must be identified to the Project Coordinator.) Or we need a brief two sentence bio.

When we receive your article you will be paid $50 by bank transfer or cheque.

Please contact the Project Coordinator, Janice MacLean at EMAIL.

We are accepting up to six blogs.

A Core Video for Preview

Communication & Family of Origin

The More Than Friends Advisory group is pleased to release one of the core videos for preview.

You are welcome to watch the video and share it. We are also offering you the couple worksheet that accompanies this video: Couple Worksheet: Communication & Family of Origin

You might want to show this video to your congregation and talk about investing in the series. There are five core videos and two additional ones, Same Gender Marriages & Later in Life Marriages & Blended Families.

Once purchased the series belongs permanently to the Pastoral Charge and the videos can be used in study groups, marriage preparation or enrichment and pastoral care.

Ministry personnel can also purchase the resource and retain permanent access.

Buy a Leader Package here.

Know a couple getting ready for marriage? Share the video with them. We hear very positive feedback from couples who felt watching the videos together and completing the worksheets was “so very important.”

Couples can purchase a couple series for $29. You can even give the series as a gift.

Two New Videos Released Soon

They’ll be ready soon! Two new videos to add to the Core collection.

Heather Hemming and Ross Bartlett host a conversation about Later in Life Marriage & Blended Families.  They speak of their own experience and offer thoughtful and practical guidance.

Linda Yates and Neil McEwen return to host a video on Same Gender Marriage. Neil speaks from the experience of his wedding and marriage and Linda as a mother of a same gendered son. Both have presided at same gender weddings.

The new videos will be available on the Leader and Couple webpage in a short while. Those who have purchased the series (leader or couple) will receive an email notice and links to the videos.

We are grateful for the generosity of The United Church of Canada for funding to produce these videos.

Why Do Marriage Preparation?

An Invitation to congregations to consider supporting life-long marriages with this innovative and time-efficient video series.

Why support Marriage Preparation?

love-you-1312636-1280x960SUPPORTS HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS: If the church is interested in the health and peaceful well-being of couples and families, then it has an ethical obligation to contribute to the creation of a healthy marriage. Healthy marriages are good for us.

STUDIES SHOW: A number of studies indicate that couples who have taken part in marriage preparation classes divorce at a lower rate and stay married longer. There seems to be little consensus on what content is best. Some studies claim a methodology, using a combination of online and in-person classes is most effective.  More Than Friends can support this methodology.
